Sea Ranch Lakes is located on Highway A1A, in between Lauderdale by the Sea and Pompano Beach. The majority of Sea Ranch Lakes is a walled in community, accesses to which is controlled by a small police force.
Even though Sea Ranch Lakes is a gated community, it is a full municipality of Broward County, a unique feature that most other gated communities lack, with its own mayor, village council, municipal code, and police department. Outside of the gated portion of the village is a small shopping plaza that holds the only commercial buildings inside the village's territorial limits. The village has two lakes, divided by one bridge and a small park bordering Lake Seneca. The actual Village of Sea Ranch Lakes owns no property within the village, all streets, medians and park properties are owned and governed by the Sea Ranch Lakes Beach Club, which is composed of all Sea Ranch Lakes property owners. Each person is allotted one vote within the beach club for each parcel of property he or she owns. All matters affecting changes in the Beach Club and its assets, rules, and regulations are subject to voting by the Beach Club's members. Law enforcement services are provided by the Sea Ranch Lakes Police Department and its approximately 30 sworn officers, with at least two on duty at all times. Fire & EMS services are provided by the Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue & Emergency Services. Water service is provided to the village by the City of Fort Lauderdale Water Department.
